Welcome

Posted: Aug 20, 2003 6:55:17 PM

I don't have much to say just yet, not having left Palmerston North, but welcome to the site anyway!

Do try out the comments function; hopefully all systems will be completely operational and functioning perfectly.

I'm due to leave for Wellington tomorrow (Thursday) evening, where I will be staying the night before flying out early the next morning. Once I land and find some place that has internet access (probably Hong Kong International Airport) I will post the next update.

Yeah like you wont be dead on your feet at that point. Zombie man.

Nice site

Bosco   Aug 20, 2003 7:09:21 PM

In case I dont talk to you between now and then, have tons of fun and be safe and good. But not too good.

Sahi   Aug 20, 2003 9:44:09 PM

Hmm, I think I like what you did to the comments page. I'm posting this now to check it out.

I hope you have lots of fun.

Yalahii!

Sahi   Aug 20, 2003 9:44:37 PM

Yup, I definitely like it!

Yalahii.

Charlotte   Aug 21, 2003 2:06:27 AM

Ha! A new place to hang out and be crazy! And I agree with Sahi; what you've done with the comments section looks good! Be safe on your travels!

Maladroit   Aug 21, 2003 4:00:51 AM

So, if it's 10:00 PM in the 20th here, does the train stop in Albequerque? And is it time for you to be leaving yet?

Michael   Aug 21, 2003 7:59:47 AM

Good luck Damon and have a good flight. Don't forget to make use of all the free stuff like drinks and toiletpaper.

Peter   Aug 21, 2003 9:46:54 AM

Good luck Paragon!

I fixed the date bug on the main page...

Btw, the new comment layout is my fault...

As is the lack of a feature to remember the name of a poster...

Rimmers   Aug 21, 2003 12:01:59 PM

have a nice flight, and good luck, Paragon!

keep us informed!

Rimmers   Aug 21, 2003 12:05:38 PM

oh, and the alternating colours in the comments are great!

smarch-style, you could say...

Peter   Aug 21, 2003 12:26:14 PM

Sorry for the short downtime everyone, but I had to move the server to another room to keep it from getting painted...

Rimmers, where'd you think I stole the idea from? :)

It is a bit simpler in style though, works with div's not tables, and the horizontal rulers used there to seperate content from the post date etc. didn't look good here.

Mo Jo   Aug 21, 2003 1:29:02 PM

You go you bad thang

Peter   Aug 21, 2003 9:37:36 PM

Damon, I updated a couple things in the comments section...

The comments page should remember (using a cookie) the author name. It should also focus the author name textfield if no name is set and the comment text field otherwise. When a comment has been added, the end of the comments section of the viewreport page is shown.

Should make life a bit easier for all the mass posters around here.

*looks at posts*

I'm sure they'll show up.. just give them a bit of time ;)

Agnes   Aug 22, 2003 12:16:01 AM

Hey, Damon, have a wonderful and safe trip! Hong Kong might not be a good place to visit if you ain't gonna do any shopping though, hehe. Oh, yeah, Michael's right, don't forget to use the free drink and toiletpaper. LOL

Bosco   Aug 22, 2003 1:19:16 AM

I have a plan. If he doesn't update often and thoroughly I shall spam with offers on how to save money on your mortgage, and to earn a living at home, and to hook up with that fine blond booty-call who is winking salaciously at you - even now. Hahahaha! *cries*

Sahi   Aug 22, 2003 8:37:55 AM

*tries out the new features*

Well I have to do something till you post your stories!

yalahii.

Sahi   Aug 22, 2003 8:38:16 AM

Nice work Peter!

Yalahii.

Rimmers   Aug 22, 2003 1:06:25 PM

almost ubb, Peter ;)

*awaits Damon's first report*

Peter   Aug 22, 2003 1:37:25 PM

Just without the crashes Rimmers ;)

(Damon wanted it simple... I'd have made it far more complicated and powerful. I think Damon was right. Works nicely for this site)

Damon   Aug 22, 2003 4:09:03 PM

Thanks guys - I'm writing the second report right now.

Peter (admin)   Aug 22, 2003 4:21:52 PM

Sorry for the outage, but the DNS server for this site has been down. If this happens again, the site should still be available under www.ingelen.at/damon .

Sorry for the inconvenience, but the problem is not with my server.

*fidgets for damons second report*

Wolfshade   Aug 22, 2003 4:27:39 PM

Have a fun and safe trip!!! I'll keep an eye open for more exact dates during the Germany part of you trip. If you meet up with anyone in Berlin, it's only a couple hours train from Leipzig (where I am), and I may be able to pop in...no promises yet, though!

lian   Aug 22, 2003 6:57:25 PM

wooo-hooo! There he goes! Haven't read anything yet, but it's really courageous of you to include a comment function, since you know the S'march folks' spammability all too well! ;P

Wolfshade, I'll try my best to make it up to Berlin, but don't panic, I can be almost normal and likeable in RL :)

Peter   Aug 22, 2003 8:27:07 PM

Hi lian!

Is this in contrast to being totally insane and very likeable online? ;)

And spam away...

I'm not sure if Paragon can read it all, but he wanted a comment function and here it is... The server can take a lot more spam than this and if need be I'll extend the software to handle multiple pages of comments ;)

And I promise it's NOT going to crash after 600 posts. Really ;)

Mr Gump   Aug 26, 2003 8:31:00 AM

Howdy Damon!!

Mr Manning told about your site and the fact that I'd missed you leaving :(

'Bon Voyage' (you'll have to post date that)

All you have to remember is that "if you can't be good, be careful" :P

Oh, and say hi to Malcolm when you see him, Europe being so small and all you're bound to bump into him.

Anyway... be well,

Mike.

Damon   Aug 26, 2003 8:42:20 AM

Thanks Mike - sorry I missed you, and I will try to be at least one of those at any time.
